Happy birthday to anyone I missed!

Folks I swear on the fact I'm a honky that I will submit work soon! It's just I'm a perfectionist and if the work don't look right to me, it don't look right. To give you hint on the work I'm doing I'm trying to show I don't do just pinup work, that I'm not a one trick pony and that I can do any type of work that isn't just lips, breasts, and an ass. Not that I don't mind doing pics like that mind you.

Are you an upcoming artist or hobbyist who's got a computer and a graphics tablet but don't have the cash to buy Photoshop? Are you an aspiring digital painter but don't have the green to buy Corel Painter? Do you want to do 2D or 3D animation but don't have the mullah? Well folks, I may have the answer or answers to what you need.

If you're a MAC user like me, the list of software below may be what you need.

Free MAC software:

• Seashore - An image editor for Mac OS X, which was influenced by the GIMP and written using the Cocoa API. Seashore uses GIMP's native file format, XCF, and has support for a handful of other graphics file formats, including full support for TIFF, PNG, and JPEG, and read-only support for BMP, PDF and GIF. Seashore offers a smaller number of features in comparison with GIMP, including layers and alpha channel support, gradients and transparency effects, anti-aliased brushes, tablet support and plug-in filters. • Inkscape – Is a free software vector graphics editor. [link]
• Alchemy - A vector graphics drawing program that aims to facilitate creativity and idea development. It uses 'experimental interaction' such as voice to control how lines are drawn on screen, generating random shapes, and drawing with symmetry to create a quick face or body. [link]
• Blender - Is a free and open-source 3D computer graphics software product used for creating animated films, visual effects, interactive 3D applications or video games. Blender's features include 3D modeling, UV unwrapping, texturing, rigging and skinning, fluid and smoke simulation, particle simulation, animating, rendering, video editing and compositing. [link]
• Pencil - A 2D graphical animation software that runs on Mac, Windows, Linux and BSD. Pencil uses a unique bitmap/vector drawing interface to produce simple 2D graphics as well as animation. [link]
• GIMP - A free software raster graphics editor that can create detailed image retouching and free-form drawing, GIMP can accomplish essential image editing tasks such as resizing, editing, and cropping photos, photomontages combining multiple images, and converting between different image formats. GIMP can also be used to create animated images in many formats such as GIF and MPEG through the Animation Plugin. [link]

Do you not have a MAC? Are you a Windows/PC heathen?! Just kidding it doesn't matter to me if you're a PC or a MAC person. The list below is for you.

Free Windows software:

• MyPaint – Is a free software graphics application for digital painters, similar to Corel Painter. [link]
• Inkscape - Is a free software vector graphics editor.
[link]
• GIMP – A free software raster graphics editor that can create detailed image retouching and free-form drawing, GIMP can accomplish essential image editing tasks such as resizing, editing, and cropping photos, photomontages combining multiple images, and converting between different image formats. GIMP can also be used to create animated images in many formats such as GIF and MPEG through the Animation Plugin. [link]
• Paint Tool Sai – PaintTool SAI is high quality and lightweight painting software, fully digitizer support, amazing anti-aliased paintings, provide easy and stable operation, this software make digital art more enjoyable and comfortable. [link]
• Artrage 2.5 – ArtRage Starter Edition is a simple, stylish, and easy-to-use painting tool that lets you play with realistic paints on your computer. Using real world painting tools such as oil paints, pencils, felt pens and more you can create your own paintings or load in photographs as Tracing Images to recreate them by hand, letting ArtRage select the colors for you so that you can focus on the brush strokes. [link]
• Paint.net – Paint.NET is free image and photo editing software for computers that run Windows. It features an intuitive and innovative user interface with support for layers, unlimited undo, special effects, and a wide variety of useful and powerful tools. An active and growing online community provides friendly help, tutorials, and plugins. [link]

Are you a student? Then maybe you might be eligible for the student version of the Autodesk software for free. The catch is you must be a student and it's a 3-year trial. Cannot be used commercially.

Only for students: [link]

• SketchBook Pro - Also referred to as SketchBook, is drawing software that features a gesture-based user interface. It was originally developed by Alias Systems Corporation, but is now owned by Autodesk. SketchBook Pro has an uncluttered interface, and painting and drawing tools such as pencils, markers, and brushes. By using the pressure-sensitive features of graphics tablets, tablet computers, and smartphones, it can help artists sketch and create effects similar to traditional materials. Autodesk SketchBook Pro software also features a screenshot tool for annotation, allowing one to show content during a meeting and add notes as the content is reviewed. The previous/next buttons make it possible to create flipbooks or animations. The program supports layers with import and export of Photoshop (.psd) format. Other features include rulers, symmetry, the ability to customize brushes, create texture brushes, and rotate the canvas. SketchBook Pro communities exist on Twitter, Facebook, and Autodesk's AREA online community. The greatest tool I have ever used! I dis covered this thanks to the guys of CreatureBox [link]. I use this to draw out my work then import it too Photoshop for coloring.
• SketchBook Designer - In addition to the sketching capabilities and quality results that professionals have come to expect from Autodesk SketchBook Pro software, SketchBook Designer enables professional designers and artists to use a hybrid paint and vector workflow for concept design illustration and graphic design. Within the intuitive SketchBook creative environment, even new users can be productive within minutes. Nice software but I prefer SketchBook Pro.
• Maya - Autodesk Maya 3D animation software delivers an end-to-end creative workflow with comprehensive tools for animation, modeling, simulation, visual effects, rendering, matchmoving, and compositing on a highly extensible production platform. Whether you work in film, games, television, advertising, publishing, or graphic design, Maya offers state-of-the-art toolsets, combined into a single affordable offering designed to help meet today's demanding production requirements. Autodesk Maya 2012 delivers new toolsets for previsualization and game prototyping, extended simulation capabilities, and improved pipeline integration. Still recommend only 2011. 2012 is very buggy.

Copic is a brand of alcohol marker developed by Too Corporation of Japan.  Sold in more than 50 countries, the multipurpose markers are used in design, education, architecture, fashion, illustration, comics/manga, hobbies and craft.
